<video:description>A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Port Alberni, Canada by TravelPod blogger Nancydeb titled "Of bears and salmon" Nancydeb's travel blog entry: "Port Alberni Back on Vancouver Island we decided to make one last effort to get a good look at the place, but our guidebook did not inspire us much - the scenery is meant to be nice and there are beautiful coastlines, but we have done all that many times and are now very hard to impress. The guidebooks do the central and west coast regions a great disservice. For instance, all ours says of Port Alberni is that it is a good spot to see some beautiful scenery. Port Alberni was our first stop, a former logging town at the end of a deep inlet that cuts almost half the way into Vancouver Island. Along the way we stopped for an ice cream at Coombs, where the tourist market has a sod roof complete with a family of goats. We spent the night near Cathedral Grove, an impressive stand of old growth Douglas fir and red cedar - both tall, straight trees...</video:description>

<video:description>PORT ALBERNI - Port Alberni is Canada's ultimate fishing town. A place receiving lots of interest from fisherman across the country and they are welcomed with open arms. Port Alberni won the ultimate fishing town contest in 2010. Now, they are cashing in on the first prize of twenty-five thousand dollars. The money will go towards a salmon enhancement project. The project is still in the early stages of planning but construction is expected to begin over the next few months. It will take more then a first place cheque to turn a plan into reality. As defending champions Port Alberni won't be entering in the 2011 edition of the ultimate fishing town contest. With new projects in the water they still feel they are number one and only getting better.</video:description>

<video:description>Hi world! how's it going for you all today? this little video is from the top of a 30m or 112foot(11 storie) tower in the Cherry Creek area. it was really windy that day so it isnt the best. unforunetly it didnt show up but i finish the video with a shot of Comox Glacier off just the above the tresses in the distance. I hope to get there again this year (dont have my license yet, next year! i go crazy hiking about one i get that piece of paper.) if i can bribe a freind to drive. any of you want to go and summit Comox Glacier and has wheels& have at least 3 days (4 if possible) of free time. let me know this is the same tower the i had the geese fly below and around me the last time i was up the tower changing the light blubs. (these new LED last 15 years, it might be my last time up there). i have some pics of the bulbs and a shot of comox glacier i'll add to the video and reupload inthe future</video:description>

The island is 460 kilometers in length and 80 kilometers in width at its widest point. It is the largest island on the western side of North America at 32134 km and the world's 43rd largest island, Canada's 11th largest island. Victoria is the biggest city on the island. <video:description>PORT ALBERNI - Instead of being shipped over seas, an historic Port Alberni steamship will be spending her retirement years right here on Vancouver Island. The MV Lady Rose has plied the waters of the west coast, from Howe Sound to Barkley Sound, for more than six decades. While its sailing days may be over, there's big plans in store for the Lady Rose. Owner Mike Surrell said the boat has been up for sale for roughly two years. After a deal with the city of Port Alberni fell through, Surrell says he fielded plenty of interest from buyers in South America and Asia. But he wanted to keep the boat on the Island. Surrell says he wanted to keep the boat on Vancouver Island, and was delighted when he reached a deal with Jamie's Whale Watching in Tofino. The company is planning to renovate the Lady Rose into a floating restaurant.</video:description>

<video:description>PORT ALBERNI - The future of an historic walking trail in Port Alberni is in jeopardy. The log train trail is built on an old rail bed, and is a popular area among hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders. But some in the community feel if action isn't taken now the trail could be lost forever. The log train trail is leased by province's transportation ministry to the regional district. The lease costs a few bucks a year and in return the regional district maintains the trail, relying mainly on a group of dedicated volunteers who do their best with limited funds. The concern is if the regional district gives up the lease, then the province might sell off the land. The public might no longer be allowed access to their favourite trail, and the Alberni Valley would lose a trail network other communities on Vancouver Island have spent substantial sums of money to establish. The regional district is discussing the fate of the log train trail at a meeting Wednesday.</video:description>

<video:description>freqazoidiac wrote: 2 of 3 - The Cowichan river, de-forestation, fisheries, vancouver island From VHS Sad but inspiring at the same time. This was released in 2002. This past year (2009-2010) was a horrible indication of things. There was 1/10th the amount of Chinook salmon in the Cowichan compared to previous years. VERY BAD. description : This is the story of a heritage river and the man who has spearheaded the campaign to have the river corridor set aside as park. Joe Saysell has lived on the Cowichan River all his life and along with people like federal politician David Anderson, he realized in the seventies that if something wasnt done the fishery in the river would be lost. We drift the river with Joe and find out what makes the Cowichan River special. The history of the river is also featured: from the first wealthy European fly fishing tourists, to the early settlements and growth of the forest industry. This is the story of a river that has beaten the odds and the man who made it happen.</video:description>

Hockey fans were asked to watch Angel, Kevin Ross, Adam Hout and Mark mcmillan on the Variety Show of Hearts Telethon and phone in their donations. The team presented her with a huge bouquet of flowers and Kevin's mom lead the National Anthem. It was definitely a dream come true for Angel.
